How to: Public Portals

Almost every FleetPaths portal comes with its very own, customizable and ready-to-deploy Public Portal. These Public Portals are designed to be distributed to the community so they can see the progress of your vehicles and keep themselves informed. In this tutorial, we're going to go over everything you need to know to get your Public Portal exactly how and where you want it.

1. Accessing & Distributing

  • Go to the Manage Tab from the top-left dropdown.
  •  Select the Public Web Pages option.

  1. A new menu will open with all available public portals listed and some options for each. The menu columns, from left to right, are as follows:
    1. Portal Name
      1. The name of your portal corresponding to the link and options in its row.
        1. Note: If you only have one portal, you will only have one row.
    2. Portal
      1. This is the link to your Public Portal, and how you and others will access it. This link can be distributed to the public via whichever channels you see fit or not distributed at all.
        1. Note: There is no login required for the public portal, so anyone with access to this link can view it.
    3. Vehicle Hide
      1. This checkbox allows you to choose between hiding or displaying your vehicle's locations in the public portal. If the box is checked, your vehicles will be hidden from the public portal.
    4. Show Pin
      1. Choose whether or not you'd like your Pins shown in your public portal. If the box is checked, your Pins will be visible in the public portal.

2. Public Portal Customization & Usage

The 'Customize' tab in the top left-side drop-down menu contains many different ways to personalize your public portal. In this section, we'll go over each option (top to bottom) and what it does.

  1. Alert

    1. Creating an Alert will display a bright yellow box containing your message of choice across the top of your public portal.
      1. Useful for inclement weather conditions, large-scale road shutdowns, potential delays, etc.
    2. It's as easy as typing your message into the box(es) displayed on the Alert screen, then clicking 'Save Message.'
      1. Note: Messages must be fully text-based and will be displayed until deleted from within the Alert menu.

  1. Street Priority & Update Street Priority

    1. Your Street Priority selections allow you to provide the public with a further understanding into the order in which roads will be serviced.
      1. Firstly, the Street Priority menu allows you to edit & reorder all of the different priority levels of your streets. On the Street Priority page:
        1. Priority Order - set the priority of a road type, with 0 being the highest and the largest number being the lowest (this is the order they will appear in on the Public Portal).
        2. Type of Road - tells you what 'class' of road the priority is attached to. Uneditable.
        3. Description - change the name of the priority level, and how it will appear to the public.
        4. Road Color - set the color that the roads of this priority will appear as when viewing the 'Priority Map'.
        5. Display - choose which priorities you'd like displayed to the public.

      1. Secondly, the Update Streets & Priorities menu is where you will go to assign your streets the correct priority. When on this page, you can:
        1. Select a Street Priority Type from the left-side menu.
        2. With a selected Street Priority Type, click on the streets you'd like changed to that type. They will change color and appear in list form in the left-side menu.
          1. Note: Click the Trash Can next to the listed street names to deselect them.
        3. When finished making selections, click the 'Update Priority' button at the bottom of the left-side menu to save your selections.

    1. Now that you're finished updating your Street Priorities, we can go on over to your Public Portal to see where the Priority Map is and what it looks like.
      1. Right below the logo in the left-side menu, you'll see two buttons that each display a different view of the Public Portal:
        1. Status - This view shows real-time (with a slight delay for safety) updates on when your vehicles last serviced certain streets.
          1. Note: If you'd like to learn more about the Status view and the Status Key, check out our Status Key Tutorial.
        2. Priority - Selecting this will show your full map with the Street Priorities you just fine-tuned, including a key in the left-side menu.
  1. More Information

    1. Looking at the picture above, you will see a link below the Street Priority Key in the left-side menu that says "More Information."
      1. Clicking on this will open a window displaying anything and everything one has entered in the More Information menu under the Customize tab.
        1. Note: Feel free to use links & pictures in this section if you see fit. There's no 'right' way to use it, it is just an area to provide further info if you see fit.
  1. Status Key

    1. For a detailed instructional on Status Key functionality, click here to read the dedicated user manual.
  2. Welcome Message Text

    1. When someone first opens the Public Portal, they will be met with a Welcome Message pop-up detailing any pertinent info chosen by the portal owner to display. See example below:

    1. Similarly to the 'More Information' page, you have full control over what is shown in this pop-up.
      1. This is an excellent place to put any links, instructions, contact info, or anything else you'd like displayed prominently to Public Portal users.

    1. The final option under the Customize tab allows you to upload a logo you would like to be shown at the top of the left-side menu.
      1. Simply click 'Choose File' and select your logo.
        1. Note: the logo has to be formatted as a .PNG image to be uploaded to the Public Portal.

And that brings us to the end of the Public Portal Walkthrough. You now know how to find, share, edit and deeply customize your Public Portal. These powerful tools can reduce citizen call-ins by 50+% by allowing them to check progress themselves, freeing up your phone lines during inclement weather. All that's left to do now is spread the word!
