Guide for Creating and Managing Zones

Guide for Creating and Managing Zones

1. Navigate to Zone Creation

  • Step 1: Go to the Manage Tab.
  • Step 2: Select the Create Zone option.

2. Zone Creation Methods

You will have the option to either Draw A Zone or Create Zone By Streets.
When selecting either method, a left-side menu will appear prompting you to enter:
    1. Zone Name (Required): Enter the name of the zone in the text field.
    2. Zone Color (Required): Choose a color from the color scale to fill the zone polygon.
  1. Draw A Zone
    1. This method allows you to draw a polygon around an area to create a zone.
    2. Use the "Draw a Shape" tool to create the zone on the map.
      1. Start drawing the zone by tracing the perimeter of the area where you would like the zone to be created, making sure to check the nearby street boundaries.
      2. Draw a full zone polygon at the same zoom level.
      3. Close the zone by connecting back to the starting point.
        1. Note: Once the zone is saved, it cannot be edited. If you need to make changes, you will have to delete and redraw the zone

    1. Select the "Hand/Finish Drawing" tool when your new zone is closed and highlighted grey.
      1. Using this tool, you can grab and adjust the dots around the border of the zone.
        1. Adjust all corners and ensure that the streets near the boundary are properly covered.
        2. Make sure that all corners are either inside or outside the streets.
      2. If the new zone overlaps with an already existing zone, recreate the overlapping zone and adjust the streets as needed to include them in the appropriate zone.
    2. When finished editing your zone boundary, click Save Zone in the left-side menu. Remember, once saved, the zone cannot be edited. It will need to be deleted and redrawn for changes.

  1. Create Zone by Streets
    1. As opposed to creating a large shape to encompass a zone, this method allows you to go street-by-street and choose exactly which ones you want in your zone.
    2. Clicking this option will immediately highlight all selectable streets in the area blue.
      1. Click on any street that is highlighted blue to add it to your zone.
        1. This will turn it pink and add it to a list on the left side of your screen. You can view and delete all added streets using this list.
        2. Note: Streets are broken up by intersections, so make sure you're double-checking that you've correctly selected the sections you want added.
      2. When you are finished adding all streets you'd like in your zone, click Save Zone in the left-side menu.

4. Deleting/Copying a Zone

  • To delete or copy a zone to another portal, select the “Delete/Copy Zone” option from the left-side Zone Creation menu.
    • A menu will open showing all existing zones. There will be two icons next to each zone:
      • The Trash Can icon will delete the corresponding zone from the current portal.
      • The Copy icon will copy the corresponding zone to another one of your portals.
        • Note: The Copy icon does NOT copy the zone in the current portal. If you have 2+ portals, it allows you to copy the zone into another one of your portals. If you just have one portal, the Copy icon has no functionality.
